Vickie Tinker was a musician, beloved community member, and tireless social justice advocate.  Between 2018 and 2021 she battled advanced ovarian cancer.  She never stopped singing. Written by Vickie and recorded by her doctor in her honor, RISE expresses the transcendence of community, love, work, grace, and hope. “RISE is about not giving up when you’ve done everything you can. Look into The Sky gives voice to hope and perspective while going through the hardest of times.  The painful personal struggles in each of our lives can be soothed by knowing that we are under the same sky as the people who see us and love us.

Patience with infernos is about the beautiful and painful contradictions within us, between us, and around us.  Would we choose a different journey if it meant we were not ourselves? Can we make room for self-love simultaneous to self-struggle, health simultaneous to illness, quiet simultaneous to sound, life simultaneous to death? Can we embrace our essential selves and our significant differences as we inhabit together this world on fire?

Poem or Song is about questions that have no answers, dichotomies that are not in conflict, and the playful dance between friendship and love. Our desires and dreams are not as simple as black and white. The most significant choices are infused with hues of gray.

Any Mountain is the original hip hop song that launched The Any Mountain Project, telling the story of diagnosis, treatment and survival of ovarian cancer from the patient’s perspective and making the analogy between fighting ovarian cancer and climbing the tallest mountains.
